It is truly ironic that MLB, in response to unsupportable and subsequently refuted claims of voter suppression in Georgia’s Election Integrity Act of 2021, moved the 2021 All Star game from Atlanta to Denver. Yes Denver, in Colorado, the state now embarking on the disenfranchisement some 1.4 million plus voters (based on Trump 2020 voters) or more broadly speaking an estimated 3.3 million voters in the state — not through an act of elected legislators and signed by an elected governor, but rather by a blatantly partisan act of four unelected individuals.

Concerns over vast numbers of disenfranchised voters from the Election Integrity Act have proven to be unfounded. Search the web and you will find many articles citing record early voter turnouts and impressive total vote counts for an off year (non-presidential election) vote, with increased early voter turnout. And of course, despite no change in the laws, MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred awarded the 2025 All Start game to — yes, Atlanta.

Here’s what Manfred said in 2021 on the decision to move the game — “Major League Baseball fundamentally supports voting rights for all Americans and opposes restrictions to the ballot box,” stating that moving the game was “the best way to demonstrate our values as a sport” 2021 All-Star Game, Draft relocated (mlb.com) .

On November 16th, 2023 , Manfred had this to say — “As a model of success on and off the field, the Braves deserve to host the All-Star Game”. Atlanta Braves awarded 2025 MLB All-Star Game . No mention at all of the disenfranchised voters — what are they thinking now?

And then this week, the Colorado Supreme Court launches the first political MOAB (Mother of All Bombs) across the 2024 political landscape.

Whether you are a Trump hater or lover (there are plenty of both) you should be concerned about the implications of this action. We as a country continue to ignorantly or opportunistically test the limits of our constitutional framework and our republic.

· Trump should have immediately urged the violent protesters to stand down on Jan. 6 after they breached the capitol.

· He should have conceded the election once he determined that he could not produce substantial and massive evidence of voter fraud. Failing to do so undermined our tradition of orderly transfer of power.

· Democrats in Congress should have refrained from a politically motivated impeachment process that they knew would fail.

· Prosecutors should be refraining from lame politically motivated prosecutions of Trump.

· Special interest groups should refrain from partisan efforts to disqualify Trump under Section 3 of the 14th Amendment.

· And the Colorado Supreme Court judges should show more respect for our constitution as written and not frivolously (bizarrely?) declare that it is “self-executing” — apparently meaning a ballot disqualification does not require a conviction in court.

It’s high time we all recognize the harm we are doing to our democratic institutions and show some common sense and restraint in words and actions.
